The Everest base camp trek is a challenging trek so there are some risks while doing the trek. Here are some of the major risks during the Everest base camp trek:

Altitude sickness: The altitude sickness is a very common risks while doing the Everest base camp trek. As you will ascend to the higher elevations the oxygen level decreases which may lead to the symptoms such as headache, nausea, dizziness, etc.

Our team will pick you up from the Tribhuvan International Airport on your arrival day. They will take you to the hotel. Depending upon the remaining day, we have a short introduction with the mountain guide and a packing session. The guide will brief you about the trail and help you with packing. We will do any last-minute shopping too, if needed.

Embarking on the journey to Everest Base Camp trek begins with flight to Lukla, where the airport offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas. The flight to Lukla is typically operated from Kathmandu. On this day we wake up at 5 to 6 am. Our staff will escort you to the domestic airport terminal in Kathmandu and board a 35-minute flight to Lukla. However, during peak seasons like March, April, May, October, and November, flights to Lukla are routed from Ramechhap/Manthali due to high air traffic. To catch a flight from Ramechhap, departure from Kathmandu to Manthali is scheduled around 12:30 a.m. on the departure date, with the drive taking approximately five hours. From Lukla, Phakding is located a few hundred meters below and also gives you a chance to acclimatize. The trail descends alongside the Dudh Koshi river via lush forests. On the way, you will cross many suspension bridges and small villages.

The day begins after a warm breakfast. Walking alongside the Dudh Koshi river, crossing it many times, we reach Monjo. We will register our permits at the police check post and begin ascending following the magnolia and rhododendron forests. We will walk past remote villages, terraces, and waterfalls. The last ascent to Namche Bazaar is steep.

We take a break on this day to rest and acclimatize. In the morning, a hike to Hotel Everest View will be perfect for acclimatization and also lets you enjoy striking views of mountains like Thamserku, Kongde Ri, Khumbila, etc. From the Hotel Everest View, we can see the first view of Mt. Everest along with Lhotse and Nuptse. Later in the day, we will visit the Sherpa Culture Museum and Everest Photo Gallery.

The next point is Tengboche village which houses the biggest monastery in the Khumbu region and presents the most captivating panorama of Mt. Ama Dablam. The trail from Namche Bazaar follows a stony, rough path that descends a bit and climbs alongside the Dudh Koshi river. We will walk through lush forests, enjoying stunning views of Lhotse, Everest, Nuptse, Pumori, etc. From Phungi Thenga, the trail is covered with lush woodland up to Tengboche village.

Leaving Tengboche, we trek and reach Deboche via the alpine forest. Crossing the Imja Khola on a suspension bridge, we walk past inscribed stones. Further, the trail goes through Pangboche village and keeps trekking towards the Imja valley. Soon walking via terraces, we will reach Dingboche.

We will now be trekking above the tree line in the upper route to the Everest base camp. You can see a drastic change in the landscapes from lush & verdant to rocky, cold, and snowy. Leaving Dingboche, we walk on the glacier path to Dughla. The trail will be steep and rugged. On the way, we can see colorful prayer flags and stupas at some places. The mountains are very close compared to the last few days.

The trail first ascends to Gorak Shep. We will walk along the Khumbu glacier, enjoying enchanting mountain views. From Gorak Shep, the pathways are more rocky and rugged. Later, trek back to Gorak Shep to spend the night.

Today, we will hike to the highest point of our Everest base camp trek, Kala Patthar. We leave Gorak Shep early in the morning and follow a steep, rugged uphill trail to the viewpoint. As the dawn breaks down gradually, the giant mountains will begin to uncover themselves one by one. From Kala Patthar, we can see jaw-dropping views of Everest and many other mountains. Later, descend to Pheriche to spend the night.

After completing the long adventurous trekking journey, now you will be flying back to Kathmandu taking unforgettable memories. When returning from Lukla to Kathmandu, the typical departure is from Lukla Airport. The travelers will fly from Lukla airport to Kathmandu with the duration of approximately 35 minutes. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, passengers will be transferred to their hotels via comfortable vehicle, ensuring a smooth transition from air to land travel. But the peak seasons like spring and autumn experiences high air traffic. In these cases, flights may be routed from Ramechhap/Manthali. The flight from Lukla to Manthali is a 20-minute flight. Upon arrival take a scenic drive back to Kathmandu. The drive is about a 5-to-6-hour to Kathmandu, witness beautiful sceneries and be transferred to your accommodations safely.

You can choose the food from menu as your wish, it can be local food daal bhat, soups or you can have continental food and Chinese dishes too. No, you cannot see the summit of Mt. Everest from Everest base camp. From base camp, you can largely see Nuptse, and the Khumbu Ice Falls. The summit of Everest is actually hidden from view. The best view of the Everest summit in the area of base camp is from Kalapathar. You will be able to see the beautiful view of the Mount Everest throughout the journey from different point but not from the base camp itself.

You cannot stay overnight at an Everest Base camp instead you can stay at Gorak Shep. You can have beautiful views and take enough pictures at base camp and return to Gorka Shep to stay. Though, you can also stay overnight at base camp but for that you need a special permit which is expensive.

Yes, there is cell service on Everest Base camp Trek. Although the service will not be available in all the areas, you will get the network at different stops throughout the trekking. Everest base camp basically doesn’t need long training. The best preparation you can do for a trek to Everest Base Camp is exercise routines which build strength, fitness and stamina. You can take a walk on the daily basis. Jogging and swimming would be best. You can start these training one month or even more before the trek. All you need to have is physical and mental fitness.

The difficulty level of the Everest Base Camp is moderate. If you like hiking and have some experiences of it then you can complete this trek at ease. The journey is a long walk to reach the destination. You should walk 5-6 hours a day. If a person has breathing problem he should not try this trek as you should climb up and down.
